Exploring the realm of couches, Room & Board and Castlery each bring unique qualities to the table. Room & Board stands out with its American craftsmanship and sustainability efforts, placing it in the premium tier. Meanwhile, Castlery offers trendy designs at budget-friendly prices with a 3-year warranty for added assurance. Room & Board emphasizes durability and quality, while Castlery shines in providing affordable elegance and a smooth shopping experience. The decision boils down to your priorities – opt for premium craftsmanship and sustainability with Room & Board or embrace chic designs within a budget-friendly range with Castlery.
BRAND #1: Room & Board
Founded in 1980, Room & Board is a veteran in the furniture industry, known for its timeless designs and commitment to American craftsmanship. They partner with local artisans and prioritize sustainability, setting ambitious goals for eco-friendly practices and materials. Their transparent approach to pricing and focus on customer satisfaction make them a trusted name in the furniture market.
Room & Board | Brand Summary
Room & Boardgets it. They have a beautiful and useful website that makes shopping for a couch delightful. Their quality is excellent, their couches are made in the USA, and they have measurable and attainable sustainability goals. If their lead times were better and if they had an actual warranty on their couches then they would get a MAJOR bump in their PotatoMeter rating.
Compared to other well-known brands that offer stylish and affordable sofas, Room & Board provides a higher-end alternative with superior durability and quality. If you’re OK with those caveats, then Room & Board is a phenomenal choice for your couch purchase.

Room and Board offers a delightful online shopping experience with high-quality, American-made couches and a strong commitment to sustainability. However, their 4 to 10-week lead time for custom upholstery might test your patience. The $119 white glove delivery fee, while convenient, adds to the overall cost. They don't offer a warranty on their couches, relying instead on a guarantee, which could be a concern for some.
Despite these drawbacks, the focus of Room and Board furniture on quality, sustainability, and customer satisfaction makes them a top contender for your next sofa purchase. Their "In Stock" fabric options are a great way to get your new couch faster, and their generous return policy provides peace of mind.
Castlery was founded in 2013 with the goal of making designer furniture accessible to everyone. Their imported, direct to consumer model has allowed them to achieve that goal, as evidenced by their stylish selection of sofas at affordable prices.
Castlery | Brand Summary
Castlery does an amazing job of presenting and displaying their couches. Browsing their website is a joy, and their collections of Castlery furniture are good quality at this price point. They have fast lead times and their customer focus is great for the lower price tier that they occupy.
If you feel priced out by places like Joybird, West Elm, or CB2, then Castlery Furniture's stylish, budget-friendly selection will be a pleasant surprise.
Castlery furniture offers a breath of fresh air for those seeking a stylish sofa without the hefty price tag. Their online shopping experience is top-notch, featuring a user-friendly website, glamorous photos that make their couches even more tempting, and impressively fast shipping times. Plus, their 3-year warranty offers a sense of security for your investment.
However, don't let the low prices fool you entirely. As Castlery furniture reviews reveal, fabric selection might leave you wanting more variety, and their 20% restocking fee could be a deterrent if you're unsure about your purchase. Additionally, while most of their sofas require minimal assembly (just attaching the legs), it's worth noting that they don't offer white-glove delivery service.
So, if you're a savvy shopper with a penchant for modern design and a willingness to tackle minor assembly, Castlery could be your ideal match. Their combination of style, affordability, and convenience makes them a compelling option for those looking to elevate their living space without breaking the bank. Just be sure to carefully consider your fabric options and be prepared to commit to your purchase, as returns can get a bit pricey.
The champion of this couch clash is Room & Board! With its impeccable American craftsmanship, sustainability initiatives, and superior quality, Room & Board outshines Castlery. If you prioritize durability, premium aesthetics, and eco-conscious practices, Room & Board is the unbeatable choice. Elevate your living space with Room & Board's top-tier offerings that blend luxury and sustainability seamlessly.
