At Couch.com, we’re all about bringing you the best insights into the comfiest and most stylish couches on the market. I’m Alex, the CEO and founder of Couch.com, and I asked our dedicated reviewer, Kathrin, to visit IKEA in Burbank and sit-test and review the top couches of 2024. Known for their affordable price, IKEA's offerings appeal to budget-conscious consumers looking for value and customization options. Kathrin, a single mother of two young boys (ages 7 and 11), is a teacher who needs a durable, comfortable, and stylish couch that can withstand the messiness and roughness of her active household. Let’s dive into her findings!

Finnala Loveseat Review

First Impressions: The Finnala Loveseat immediately caught Kathrin’s attention with its deep seating and cushioned armrests. It offers a cozy and inviting space that’s perfect for a family setting.

Comfort & Value: Kathrin found the Finnala to be quite comfortable and well-suited for lounging. Priced at $1,000, it stands out as a solid investment for those looking for a balance of comfort and value. Additionally, its smart design makes it a better sofa for small space living, ideal for college apartments or compact homes.

Verdict: With its comfortable cushions and supportive armrests, the Finnala Loveseat is a great addition to any home, especially for those who enjoy a plush seating experience.

Kivik Loveseat Review

First Impressions: The Kivik Loveseat features deep cushions that are both inviting and supportive. Kathrin noted that the back cushions contribute significantly to its comfort, though it might benefit from additional pillows to enhance it further.

Comfort & Value: At $799, the Kivik offers excellent value. It’s a comfortable and spacious option that doesn’t break the bank.

Verdict: The Kivik Loveseat is a budget-friendly choice that doesn’t compromise on comfort. It’s ideal for anyone looking for a deep-seated couch that’s easy on the wallet.

Slattorp Sectional Review

First Impressions: The Slattorp Sectional is a large piece of furniture designed for families. Its versatile design allows for multiple seating configurations, making it a practical choice for larger households.

Comfort & Value: While the removable cushions can be a bit of a hassle with kids around, the overall comfort and cleanability make it a worthy contender at $1,500. Additionally, its versatile design makes it ideal for small space living, offering smart solutions for compact homes.

Verdict: The Slattorp Sectional offers ample seating and good value, but the removable cushions might be a drawback for families with young children.

Uppland Sofa Review

First Impressions: The Uppland Sofa, a new sofa design, features modular back cushions that allow for adjustable depth and sitting positions. It has a nice armrest height but lacks depth, making it less suitable for lounging or napping.

Comfort & Value: The bouncy cushions are a concern in terms of long-term durability. However, it still presents a decent value proposition.

Verdict: The Uppland Sofa might not be the best choice for those who prioritize deep, comfortable seating. It’s a decent option, but there are better choices available.

Morabo IKEA Sofa Review

First Impressions: The Morabo impresses with its deep seating and high armrests. The velcro-secured cushions add a practical touch, ensuring they stay in place.

Comfort & Value: At $699, the Morabo is a fantastic deal. Its comfortable seating and sturdy design make it a standout option. This sofa is a great addition to affordable home furnishings, combining style and practicality.

Verdict: The Morabo offers deep, comfortable seating at an unbeatable price. It’s perfect for those looking for a practical and stylish couch.

Morabo Leather Sofa Review

First Impressions: The Morabo is a high-quality leather sofa that exudes luxury with its genuine leather upholstery. Kathrin appreciated the deeper feel provided by the less cushiony, more structured design.

Comfort & Value: Priced at $1,200, this leather couch combines comfort with a touch of elegance, making it a great value for a genuine leather piece.

Verdict: For those willing to invest in a leather couch, the Leather Morabo is an excellent choice. Its comfortable seating and luxurious feel make it a top pick.

Kivik Sectional Review for Small Space Living

First Impressions: The Kivik Sectional is known for its comfort and spaciousness. However, the low armrests might require additional pillows for optimal comfort.

Comfort & Value: At the affordable price of $1,200, it offers a good balance of space and comfort, making it a popular choice among IKEA shoppers. The versatility of having two sofas in one sectional allows for flexible seating arrangements, ideal for family rooms.

Verdict: The Kivik Sectional is a reliable and comfortable option for larger families, though it may need some extra cushions to reach peak comfort.

Friheten Sleeper Sofa Sectional Review (Sofa Bed)

First Impressions: The Friheten Sleeper Sectional doubles as a bed, offering versatility for those who need extra sleeping space. Despite its firm feel, Kathrin found it to be comfortable in both couch and sofa bed modes. This is something rarely found in sleeper sofas!

Comfort & Value: At $899, it’s an excellent value for a sleeper sectional, providing both seating and sleeping solutions.

Verdict: The Friheten Sleeper Sectional is perfect for those who need a versatile piece of furniture. Its dual functionality and comfort make it a great investment.

Final Decision

After testing several couches, Kathrin narrowed her choices down to the Leather Morabo and the Finnala. Ultimately, she chose the Leather Morabo, citing its durability and genuine leather feel as key factors. For $1,200 (a very affordable price), she felt it offered the best combination of comfort, style, and value for her family’s needs. IKEA claims their sustainability initiatives, including the use of recycled materials and FSC-certified wood, make their products environmentally responsible choices.

Whether you’re looking for a budget-friendly option or willing to invest in luxury, IKEA’s 2024 lineup has something for everyone. From the versatile Friheten to the luxurious Leather Morabo, there’s a couch to suit every taste and budget. Happy couch hunting!

[0:00] Hey, my name is Katherine. We're here at the Ikea in Burbank. I am a single mother, I have two boys, and I'm a teacher. So, I need a couch that is going to help me grow long-term with them and not make it look like I live in a dorm room anymore. We're going to see how comfortable they are, how nap-able they are, and if they're a good value.

Finnala Loveseat Review for $1,000 [0:17] This one's pretty comfortable, pretty deep, nice armrests, some pillows. Yep, from a value perspective, it's actually really good. $1,000, comfortable.

Kivik Loveseat for $799 [0:30] Couch. Um, these names... okay. The cushions are actually really comfortable, nice and deep. It needs some pillows to make it a little more comfortable, but I guess, yeah, from a value perspective, at $799, yes.

Slattorp Sectional for $1,500 [0:52] So here we have the Slattorp. First look: big piece of furniture, sectional for $1,500. Seems like a good value. Okay, yes, you can fit two people in here. It is a good value; however, these cushions come off, so if you have kids, they're going to end up everywhere. But you can clean them. On the other side, these don't come off, so they don't end up everywhere, but cleaning them is going to be very difficult.

Uppland Review [1:17] The armrest is nice, at a nice height. It's not very deep, I mean you can't really put your feet up. The cushions are a little bouncy, so I don't know how long they're going to stay bouncy for. This wouldn't be my couch, but it's a pretty good value.

Morabo for $699 [1:38] Morabo. Also very deep. I like the high armrests. The cushions come up and they velcro, which makes it harder to be thrown about. And then, as far as, yeah, let's see. $699, definitely a good value.

Leather Morabo for $1,200 [1:55] Okay, so here's the Morabo in leather. What's great about this is that for $1,200, you can get an actual genuine leather couch. It's really comfortable. It also has that nice leather smell to it. Okay, so what's interesting to notice is this one is the leather version of the Morabo, which I didn't love that it wasn't deep enough. This one is. The dimensions are the same, so it must be because it's not cushiony and puffy. It actually gives it a deeper feeling when you're sitting on it.

Kivik Sectional for $1,200 [2:29] Okay, so this is the Kivik sectional, also very popular at Ikea. It starts off being very comfortable, cushions, big piece of furniture. The low armrests would make it, again, difficult without pillows to make it comfortable enough to want to sleep. But $1,200 for this sectional, it's a good value.

Friheten Sleeper Sectional for $899 [2:47] So this is a sleeper sectional, Friheten, and this is it in the bed sleeper mode. It's a sofa bed. It is really comfortable, the cushions work great. I wonder how easy it is to look back. Woo, well, that was fun, especially for a sofa bed. For $899, it's really good.

Final Decision [3:09] So, I narrowed it down to the leather Morabo or the Finnala. Because this one was originally my most comfortable one based on the armrests and the cushions and everything, so I think I'm going to go with the leather Morabo. I think in the long term it suits my needs better having kids. I also think for the value, $1,200 for a nice genuine leather couch, it's also a little bigger than this one. I'm going to be happier with the leather Morabo.
