Hulala Home: Ultimate Brand Review And Rating

Alex Back | Couch.com CEO & Founder
A cozy living room with a brown leather sofa, a wooden cabinet, a round coffee table, and a floor lamp. The room features large windows with views of a forest. Text overlays read "Hulala Home Ultimate Brand Review & Rating" in bold blue letters. The logo "couch" is at the bottom left.

Hulala Home is a fun, trendy, affordable place to buy a couch. Their flat pack couches ship lightning fast and will look great on instagram. But are they a good deal? In this total brand breakdown, you can forget other Hulala Home furniture reviews because I take a look at current state of Hulala Home and reveal their PotatoMeter rating.

Potato Meter
88%
Overall PotatoMeter Rating

Hulala Home knows exactly what it is – a place to buy affordable furniture that’s fun, looks good in photos, and ships incredibly fast. If that’s what you’re in the market for, Hulala Home is a great choice. But the tradeoff is that the shopping experience, the overall durability, and some of the upper tier bells and whistles aren’t going to exactly knock your socks off. Most importantly, Hulala Home provides the right level of value for their price point.

Online Shopping Experience Rating: 87%

Hulala Home has an individual website, which is what I reviewed for this article. But they also have an Amazon storefront page. In many ways, shopping their products via Amazon may result in a better overall experience in terms of value, security, and customer reviews. (I haven’t yet provided a Hulala Home review for their Amazon page FYI.)

So without further ado, here’s how Hulaala Home’s main website stands up to the rigorous PotatoMeter testing.

Hulala Home’s Ease of Navigation

  • The home page is perfectly nice and does a good job of putting important information right at the top (sales, free shipping, etc.)
  • The images are all lovely, but hovering your mouse over any of them usually results in some sort of animation or other fade effect. It’s excessive and a bit overwhelming. It made want to avoid moving my mouse over any photos.
  • The menu is laid out nicely and I like the larger, card style images. But the text is a light gray color, which is very hard to read on a white background. It becomes orange when you hover over it, but you shouldn’t need to hover over every option just to be able to read the text.
  • Sales pricing can get confusing. There are slashed sale prices, then there are stickers with the discount listed as percentages. Then there are sales coupons you can copy/paste for when you check out. It’s hard to know which number is related to which price and whether you’re getting any additional deals or not.
  • The product pages are nice and present an easy method for choosing your fabric and checking out. But the fabric thumbnails don’t show which fabrics are out of stock. It’s a bit annoying clicking on a fabric you like and then finding out it’s sold out. Strangely, the fabrics are shown as being out of stock on the main category page, but not once you’re in an individual product page.
  •  The website broke while I was browsing and gave me a “503 error” for every page I tried to visit.

Hulala Home’s Information Available “At-A-Glance”

  • On category pages you’re shown the couch name, the full price, the sale price, star rating, additional fabric choices, and if the fabrics are sold out. There’s also red sale stickers and “sold out” stickers if applicable. It’s a good amount of info.
  • There’s a “Quick View” feature that brings up a nice pop-up window with a cleaner, individual look at the product. However, it doesn’t provide much more information, which is usually why you’d have a “Quick View” feature in the first place.

Hulala Home’s Product Images

  • On category pages, hovering over a couch image pulls up an alternate angle and does a slow zoom in effect. The alternate angle usually isn’t that different from the main image, so it just ends up being a little annoying having the image start zooming and changing.
  • Most couch products have a carousel of lifestyle photos and photos of the couch on a white backdrop. Changing the fabric options will usually change the images to reflect the new color for the whole carousel. Always nice.
  • A brochure-style section beneath the main images shows close-up shots and more unique angles/aspects of the couch. This is very helpful and a welcome addition.
  • There’s usually a nice illustrated diagram showing off the dimensions. Always a plus.

Hulala Home’s Quality of Product Information

  • Generally the product information is non-specific and vague. Sometimes the brochure-style area beneath the main product image lists some good information, but it’s still rather uninformative.
  • The information in the “Weights & Dimensions” tab is hard to read and decipher. Thankfully there are usually good diagrams elsewhere that are more useful.
  • The assembly guides under the “Additional Documents” tab are actually the best place to find specific information about the product.
  • Most of the information is scattered across multiple areas – some of which are hidden behind PDFs – making it difficult to get an idea of the actual material properties of any individual couch.

Hulala Home’s Extra Bells & Whistles

  • There’s a “compare” feature on the category page. You can select multiple couches and then pull up a side-by-side comparison page. But there’s so little information used in the comparison that it’s not very helpful or worthwhile.

Shipping & Lead Times Rating: 96%

Hulala Home specializes in flat-pack, direct to consumer couches with super speedy delivery. Their uber-fast lead times are one of their strongest qualities. Here’s how fast you can expect to receive your order:

Hulala Home’s Made to Order Products:

  • Hulala Home does not have made to order couches. It’s all in-stock warehouse inventory.

Hulala Home’s In Stock Items:

  • If you order before 8PM Eastern Time (M-Th) or 10PM Eastern Time (Fri) your order will process and ship on the same day. That’s lightning fast!

Hulala Home’s Shipping Time:

  • Couches ship via FedEx. You can expect one day for processing and 2-5 days for delivery.

Customer Focus Rating: 87%

Our goal at Couch.com is to provide customers with the information they need to find the best couch for their home. We take customer satisfaction very seriously. So how does Hulala Home stack up to the competition when it comes to customer friendly resources and offerings?

Hulala Home’s Warranty:

  • Essentially Hulala Home’s 30 day return policy (see below) is their warranty. There’s no additional warranty beyond 30 days.

Hulala Home’s Return Options:

  • Hulala Home has a 30 day return policy. The customer is responsible for return shipping costs, but will otherwise be refunded. This is quite generous!
  • If the product is damaged and Hulala Home is alerted within 30 days, they will provide a refund and cover the cost of return shipping.

Hulala Home’s Delivery Options & Costs:

  • Hulala Home has free shipping via FedEx on every order.
  • Despite some references to white glove delivery on the site, I was never able to add this service to my cart.

Hulala Home’s Financing Options:

  • Product pages advertise interest free payment installments through a partnership with Klarna, but the “Learn More” link doesn’t work. Even going all the way through checkout, choosing Klarna was confusing and the plans were not clearly laid out.
  • Bizarrely, if you click “Quick View” on a product on a category page, 6 month and 12 month payment plan options are presented through Shop Pay and Affirm. But there’s no mention of this option anywhere else on the website. Choosing “Shop Pay” when you check out might be your best bet for getting financing for your order.

Is Assembly Required?

  • Yes, the vast majority of couches require assembly, which usually involves putting the couch together piece by piece (arm panels, back, seat platform, legs, etc).

Hulala Home’s Customization Options:

  • Most couches have a handful of fabric/color options or pattern options, but otherwise there are no customizations available.

Does Hulala Home Offer Free Fabric Swatches?

  • No, Hulala Home does not offer free fabric swatches for their couches.

Durability & Quality Rating: 83%

Durability is a major factor when it comes to purchasing a couch, especially when you’re ordering online. So do Hulala Home couches hold up over time? The good news is that they’re about exactly what you should hope for at their low price point.

Hulala Home’s Quality of Materials:

  • Hulala Home says that most of their fabrics are 100% Polyester and are residential grade. This means you can expect double rub counts that are less than 40,000 (though they don’t specifically list that info). Anything 40,000+ is considered commercial grade and what you should aim for.
  • Cushions are generally just described as being “foam,” though sometimes you’ll see it listed as “high resiliency” or “high density” foam. I’d love to know the exact density, but using the word “high” is promising in terms of longevity.
  • Leather is “Genuine leather,” which is the lowest tier of leather while still being real cow hide. They also have faux, vegan leather. Both of these options are fairly thin and will have more of a plastic feel compared to top-grain or full-grain leather. But at this low price this is what you should expect.

Hulala Home’s Cleanability:

  • Generally all the fabrics are 100% Polyester, which means they should be cleanable by default.
  • Care instructions for most fabrics (found in the assembly guides), recommend using a non-color mild soap with warm water to spot clean (1:10 soap to water ratio). This leads me to believe the cleaning code would be W if they had it listed.

Hulala Home’s Quality of Construction & Manufacturing Origin:

  • Hulala Home doesn’t specify the manufacturing origin of its pieces, but some Googling reveals that they manufacture many of their couches and armchairs in China.
  • Most couch frames are listed as being solid wood and manufactured wood. Based on assembly images, the wide seat panels use solid wood while the rest of the couch is constructed from plywood.
  • One couch made reference to a sinuous spring support system, but most do not mention a support system at all. It appears most couches simply have cushions on top of manufactured wood platforms. This isn’t great.
  • Some legs are metal, some are solid wood, but some are plastic. Plastic is not an ideal option for legs.

Brand Vibe Check Rating: 88%

Vibing with a brand is important. Brands can also promote certain lifestyles and sustainability goals. That’s why it’s my goal to help you find a company and brand that you vibe with so that you’re as comfortable with your new couch as you are on your new couch.

Hulala Home’s Key Differentiators & Unique Facts:

  • Hulala – /huː lɑː ˈlɑː/ used when you see something surprisingly fun and/or attractive. Hulala Home was founded by strong women who love fashion, having fun, and living a bold lifestyle“. This quote on their “About Us” page does a great job summarizing the brand and its goals.
  • Hulala Home was founded by women, which can be an important factor for some customers. This is referenced in a number of customer Hulala Home reviews.

Hulala Home’s Sustainability:

  • For every order placed, Hulala Home plants a mangrove tree in Madagascar, taking a significant step in environmental sustainability.

Hulala Home’s Overall Brand Presentation:

  • In general, it’s a pretty website with nice functionality, but there’s a disconnect between how cute and trendy the furniture is and how blasé the rest of the website is. There’s nothing here that makes Hulala Home stand out from the crowd. But there’s also nothing specifically wrong with anything they’ve done. It’s all just a bit generic.

Pros

  • Trendy, Instagram-worthy designs
  • Affordable prices
  • Incredibly fast shipping (same-day for orders before 8pm EST)
  • 30-day return policy
  • Free shipping
  • Plants a mangrove tree for every order

Cons

  • Requires assembly
  • Limited customization options
  • No free fabric swatches
  • Lower-tier materials (polyester fabrics, genuine leather)
  • Limited information on construction details

Hulala Home’s Couch That Intrigues Me The Most:

  • Coraline Upholstered Loveseat ($462.99 or $400 on sale). This is a very cute, chic loveseat that comes in a variety of fun, vibrant, floral patterns. It also comes with glamorous gold legs. It’s not the most practical piece, but it would make a cute addition to a sitting room, office, kitchen, or at the foot of a bed. It’ll brighten up any room.

Hulala Home’s Hidden Gem:

  • Sybil Rattan Armed Loveseat ($499 or $400 on sale). This charming rattan piece has a beachy, contemporary linen look. Great for a covered porch or other area that has an outdoor feel but isn’t actually outdoors.

How much do Hulala Home's couches cost?

Does Hulala Home have good reviews?

When it comes to finding good Hulala furniture reviews, Hulala Home has surprisingly good brand reviews and customer reviews, even from 3rd party, unaffiliated sources. Any complaints are typically minor. Here’s a closer look at Hulala Home reviews.

Overall Hulala Home Reviews:

  • Hulala Home has a 4.2 star rating on TrustPilot, which is very high, especially for a direct to consumer furniture company. They also have many positive reviews on their Amazon marketplace. Overall customers are very satisfied with their products and the prices.

Top Hulala Home Product Reviews:

  • Ariel Scalloped Loveseat 5 Star Review: “Absolutely beautiful. So Chique. Well made sturdy, firm, great color and texture. Perfect piece added to my second living room. I am very happy and pleased I purchased it.” – Percy
  • Ariel Scalloped Loveseat 3 Star Review: “Unfortunately, the Scalloped Loveseats cushions lost their shape and support within a few months of use.” – Winifred (there were no 1 star reviews, which is always a bit suspicious)

Hulala Home’s Customer Service Reviews:

  • Based on customer reviews and 3rd party unaffiliated review sites, Hulala Home furniture reviews reference good customer service. While reviews do mention issues with customer service response times, it’s not an egregious amount, especially compared to most other direct to consumer furniture companies.

What kind of style is Hulala Home furniture?

Hulala Home has a lovely collection of smaller scale items like armchairs and loveseats, but doesn’t go big on the big stuff. If you’re into unique stylings like diamond tufting, channel tufting, scalloped frames, and rolled arms, then you’ll really enjoy the variety of Hulala Home couches.

Hulala Home’s Range of Couch Options:

  • Hulala Home has a robust collection of armchairs and loveseats. They have a much smaller collection of standard 3-seater couches. And they only have a couple of sectional options. They’re not a great choice if you need large scale furniture, but for smaller items they have a great selection.

Hulala Home’s Range of Couch Styles:

  • Their standout products (in my opinion) are their stylish loveseats, which are trendy and eminently instagrammable. But they also have a vast range of couches to choose from that swing from vintage and traditional all the way up through ultra-contemporary and modern.
  • Compared to many online furniture companies, Hulala Home does not have nearly as large a selection of Mid-Century Modern or adjacent stylings.

Does Hulala Home Have Other Products Besides Couches?

  • Yes, Hulala Home has furniture for the whole home, including an outdoor collection. However, they do not have an extensive home decor collection.

Is it a good idea to buy something from Hulala Home in 2024?

  • As is evidenced by the plentiful amount of positive Hulala Home furniture reviews out there (and you should trust most Hulala Home reviews), this is a great brand on the rise in the furniture industry. So the answer to the question, “is Hulala Home legit?” is a resounding YES if the Hulala reviews have anything to say about it.

What are some alternatives to Hulala Home?

If you’ve been sleuthing online for other Hulala reviews, you know that Hulala Home specializes in imported couches at inexpensive price points. They have some very trendy and stylish options to choose from. For similarly priced brands with different selections, give these companies a shot:
