The Future of Sustainable Furniture is in the Heart of Brooklyn

Big news for all of you sustainable furniture enthusiasts out there: A Sabai showroom is finally here!

The eco-friendly furniture brand making waves in the design world recently opened a brand-new showroom in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (my hometown, in case you were wondering!). On a trip back recently, I had the chance to take a personal tour of the new space, and let me tell you—it’s every bit as stylish, sustainable, and cozy as you’d imagine from such a sharp brand.

This showroom is a testament to the future of furniture. The whole place is intimate and thoughtfully designed, asking you to enjoy its furniture as more of a guest than a customer. Walking in, you immediately feel that Sabai furniture is breaking boundaries, making sustainable home design accessible and stylish.

"We wanted a space that felt different from other furniture showrooms—really inviting, really cozy, and homelike," said Phantila Phataraprasit, Co-Founder and CEO at Sabai Design.

Phantila Phataraprasit: The Visionary Behind Sabai

Phantila Phataraprasit is the dynamic force behind Sabai Furniture and the brand's dedication to sustainable living. The Co-Founder and CEO is widely accomplished, holding a spot on Inc.'s 100 female founders and Forbes 30 Under 30 for her work in eco-conscious design, taking her place as a key influencer in the world of sustainable furniture design.

From my experience meeting her and exploring Sabai's showroom, it's clear that a deep passion for making eco-conscious design accessible underlies the hard work and thoughtful craftsmanship behind each piece of Sabai furniture.

The Showroom Experience

“We wanted a space that felt different from other furniture showrooms. We wanted it to feel really inviting, really cozy, and homelike,” Phantila explains.

Inviting couldn't be a more apt word! Walking into Sabai’s showroom feels less like entering a store and more like stepping into your cool friend's apartment. It's warm and familiar, with every detail thoughtfully curated, from the fabric samples on the walls to the custom furniture made by friends of the brand.

Sabai’s products are meant to be versatile. You're supposed to be able to switch out cushions, try different textures, and update the sofa as you need (or want). It's a big part of what makes the furniture sustainable - you can repair and replace fabric rather than discard the whole piece. The showroom showcases this adaptable quality in a really hands-on way. It's filled with fabric samples that let visitors touch and feel the quality of the material. It's a unique and dynamic way of getting people into the brand's vision.

Sabai's showroom is a standout experience for anyone interested in eco-friendly couches and sustainable living. If you have the chance to visit, I highly recommend it!

The Star of the Showroom: Sabai’s Elevate Sofa

One of the showroom's centerpieces is the Elevate Sofa. It's a sleek piece that could be at home in any modern living space and perfectly encapsulates Sabai's laid-back design aesthetic. It's inviting, with padded arms, a deep seat, and plush cushions that offer plenty of support. But perhaps what is most remarkable about the sofa is its upholstery, a splendid recycled velvet.

Phantila shared her enthusiasm for the Elevate Sofa:Recycled velvet is great for kids—it’s easy to clean and can even make a fun art project!(who hasn't drawn pictures using their finger against the grain of velvet? C'mon.) The velvet's blend of luxury and surprising family-friendliness makes it a standout in the showroom. It’s easy to clean, extra durable, and maintains its elegant look even with everyday use.

The Evergreen Chair & A Sustainability Collaboration

Sabai has also teamed up with MINNA, an upstate New York-based brand known for its sustainable textiles and eco-conscious collaborations, to create the Evergreen Chair. This partnership brings together comfort, style, and ethical sourcing in one beautiful piece of furniture.

MINNA's expertise in fabrics helped Sabai create a beautiful, versatile chair. It features a slipcover made from sustainable hemp-blend fabric, which allows you to clean it and switch it out as you see fit. The chair is available in an array of striking patterns and vibrant colors, breaking away from tired neutrals.

The Evergreen Chair exemplifies Sabai's commitment to offering stylish, adaptable furniture. Phantila notes, “We wanted to push people in that direction and have fun with it.”
