Lovesac is a playful and hip brand that promotes modularity and a family-friendly, laid back vibe. Their Sactionals are endlessly configurable, which means they can fit any space. But is an emphasis on modularity and customization enough to justify such a hefty price tag?

Potato Meter
90%
Overall PotatoMeter Rating

Lovesac has a very specific focus on their Sactional line of couches. Their Sactionals are marketed as an adaptable couch, endlessly configurable, customizable, and have a straightforward modern style. Machine washable fabrics, family-friendly features, and modern flourishes like wireless charging accessories round out their Sactional offering.

But Sactionals aren’t cheap. A medium-size Sactional will run you thousands of dollars, which is a major factor in the Lovesac review score. Add in overseas manufacturing and a strenuous, at-home Lovesac assembly process and you might find that owning a Sactional isn’t as much fun as the snazzy videos and photos on the website made it seem.

Online Shopping Experience Rating: 93%

Lovesac has clearly put a lot of time and effort and love into their website. Offering one singular couch helps, since it allows them to focus all their efforts on promoting and enhancing that one product page. But it’s not only that. Everything else about the website is also nice, modern, and inviting. The customization options are straightforward, but it's important to understand the exact model that will be delivered, as the appearance may differ from online renderings.

Lovesac’s Ease of Navigation

  • A vibrant, charming video greets you when you arrive on the homepage. It shows a fun variety of scenes ranging from kids destroying a living room with flour exploding everywhere to a singer/songwriter using her Sactional’s built-in speakers to play electric guitar. The video does a great job showing off Lovesac’s entire vibe, as well as some of the ways that their Sactional is convenient and adaptive. It’s very effective and fun.
  • Because Lovesac only offers one couch option, the Sactional, the menus are extremely simple and easy to navigate. They’re snappy and responsive and look very nice.
  • The main Sactional category page is information dense and does a great job outlining all the reasons why you should consider Lovesac. This is in addition to more lovely imagery, GIFs, and product suggestions. It’s a very nice way of displaying information and it made me feel very confident about Lovesac as a company.
  • The Sactional product page is essentially just a place to design your Lovesac couch. Navigating all the customization options was extremely simple and it never felt difficult or confusing. It’s all compact, tidy, and clean. I never felt like I was having to scroll all over the page just to customize the couch. Since they only offer one Lovesac couch, they can put all their effort into creating a convenience and concise ordering system that’s information rich. And they’ve achieved it!
  • The Help Center is easy to use and provides answers to almost any question you might have. It’s not bogged down with tons of legalese or unnecessary text. It’s approachable and practical. Always a great sign.

Lovesac’s Information Available “At-A-Glance”

  • There really aren’t category pages in the traditional sense since Lovesac only has one couch option. But the main Sactional page is rich in information about the collection. You have to do a bit more scrolling to get the same amount of “at a glance” info as other sites provide, but you’ll be able to get a sense of the price, the fabric options, the customization options, and the star rating.

Lovesac’s Product Images

  • As I’ve said a few times now, the Sactional is Lovesac’s only true couch product. This means that the category page doesn’t have traditional product images to critique. But the images they DO have on the category page are nice and do a great job showing off the customizations and modularity and features of the Sactional. There are sleek GIFs that are especially helpful for making sense of how a Sactional fits together.
  • Product pages show the Lovesac couch on a white background (or with a different floor background). This image is big and wonderfully practical. You can drag it to rotate it a full 360 degrees and you also get access to one close-up shot. The images in the entire carousel will change with every customization you make, which is always great. However, there are no lifestyle images on the product page. Essentially it’s a 360 customizable product image and that’s it. The lifestyle and glamour shots are all reserved for the previous category page and home page.

Lovesac's Quality of Product Information

  • Lovesac has a unique way of displaying information on product pages. Essentially the only thing on a product page is the image of the Lovesac couch and the customization options. The customization options give detailed explanations for what each upgrade option or customization entails. This includes a description of the cushion and back pillow fill as you choose it. It works well as a way to guide you through the customization process.
  • Choosing different fabric options will likely result in a change in the Lovesac couch price. They DO list the price difference of a fabric, but you have to manually click the little “i” information button on each fabric to see the price difference, the fabric’s makeup, and whether it’s considered machine washable. When you’ve read the info, you have to click again to get back to the main fabric list. I’m glad this information exists, but it’s very cumbersome having to click the “i” on every single fabric you’re interested in. It would be much better if this information appeared when you hovered over the fabric like many similar sites do.
  • Certain information is not made available on product pages. For instance, all information about their frames, construction, and spring systems is only shown in their Help Center.
  • You can click a button to have the dimensions appear over the product image. But they only show you the full width, full height, and full depth. You have to manually click the little “i” information button in the “Configure” menu to pull up the dimensions of the seating section, the arms, and other more specific dimension information. Bizarrely, they don’t ever list the seat depth despite having two different seat depth options to choose from. For such a modular situation, they’ve managed to make the dimensions bizarrely difficult to understand.
  • They don’t list Lovesac reviews on the product page. You have to navigate back to the main Sactionals page in order to read reviews. It’d be nice if these were shown at the bottom of the page.

Lovesac's Extra Bells & Whistles

  • When configuring your Sactional on the product page, you can actually ditch the standard white backdrop and choose a different floor to view the Lovesac couch on. I’ve never seen this feature before and it’s a really smart way to show how a fabric might look when it’s situated on a different floor color. It’s quick and easy to swap out different floors to check the color combo.
  • Lovesac also has AR and 360 views. You’ll be able to see the couch in your home and also from every angle. These systems work very well.

Shipping & Lead Times Rating: 88%

Lovesac does not build their Sactionals to order, but they do use “Fabric Covers” on each piece of their Sactionals. Certain fabric covers are “in-stock” while others are considered “custom.” Depending on your choice, the lead time will vary. Keep that in mind as you’re customizing your Sactional order.

Lovesac’s Made to Order Products:

  • If you choose one of Lovesac’s 131 Custom fabric cover options it can take roughly 8-10 weeks to ship out.

Lovesac’s In Stock Items:

  • It takes about a week for your Sactional to ship out if you choose one of their in-stock fabric cover options.

Lovesac’s Shipping Time:

  • Lovesac ships their Sactionals via FedEx. This process takes about a week or so. Depending on how large your Sactional is, your order will arrive in a large number of individual boxes.

Customer Focus Rating: 92%

Our goal at Couch.com is to provide customers with the information they need to find the best couch for their home. We take customer satisfaction very seriously. So how does Lovesac stack up to the competition when it comes to customer friendly resources and offerings?

Lovesac’s Warranty:

  • Lovesac has a lifetime guarantee against manufacturer defects for all Sactional framing and hardware.
  • They provide a 3-year warranty against manufacturer defects for all Sactional seat cushions, back pillows, and covers.
  • The StealthTech Sound + Charge Sides are covered under a lifetime warranty. If a speaker fails, they’ll replace the side for you.
  • The Wireless chargers in the Sound + Charge Sides are covered under a 3 year warranty. The system components are also covered under a 3 year warranty.

Lovesac’s Return Options:

  • Eligible merchandise may be returned or exchanged within 60-Days of the date you received it for a full refund. They will send pre-paid shipping labels and can schedule parcel pickups upon request.
  • “Custom” fabric covers are cut and sewn on demand and cannot be returned. Custom fabrics are any fabrics that are not part of the 30 Quick Ship options. Fabric covers comprise about 50% or more of the total Lovesac couch price. That means you could be out a couple thousand dollars if you choose to return everything except the non-returnable custom fabric covers.
  • Items may be placed in original packaging or your own packaging to ship back your return. Lovesac can also provide boxing if requested.

Lovesac’s Delivery Options & Costs:

  • Lovesac ships products for FREE within the contiguous United States via FedEx (sorry Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada).
  • FedEx delivers your order, which means that there are no white glove, room of choice, or Lovesac assembly options available. Note: FedEx may just drop off all your Lovesac boxes outside your home without notifying you of the delivery. Keep this in mind when you’re expecting your order’s arrival.

Lovesac’s Financing Options:

  • Lovesac has partnered with Affirm to offer 3, 6, or 12 month financing plans starting at 0% APR.

Is Assembly Required?

  • Yes, Lovesac Sactionals require assembly after they’ve been delivered. Lovesac has instruction guides and video tutorials to help you get your Sactional configured.
  • Lovesac couch assembly can look daunting at first (their shoe system will make you wish you had paid closer attention in Geometry class), but once you get the hang of the unique assembly system it shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge. The arms, back of the frame, and seats are all separate components that can be moved and rearranged at your whim. But keep in mind that none of this will be as simple as their flashy videos make it seem.
  • If you order a large Sactional there will be LOTS of individual boxes and it will require a decent chunk of time to assemble. It will not be a simple, snappy process. You’ll also need to put the fabric covers on each piece of the Lovesac couch, which can be more strenuous than you’d expect.

Lovesac’s Customization Options:

  • There are lots of customization options to choose from. This is a signature aspect of Lovesac’s entire business model.
  • You can choose from a selection of popular Sactional configurations or create an entirely unique one based on your personal needs. The sky’s the limit when it comes to your creation.
  • Lovesac also allows you to choose the arm style (standard, angled, or rolled), the back style (standard or angled), the fabric (30 Quick Ship options and 131 Custom options), and the cushion filling (standard foam, “Lovesoft” synthetic down, or down blend).
  • StealthTech is one of the most unique options available for any couch on the market. You can add StealthTech Speakers + Chargers to your Sactional components to create a surround sound system that’s integrated right into your couch. Additionally, there are wireless charging stations built into the Lovesac couch so you can charge your phone or other compatible electronics. Wow!
  • Lovesac also offers practical accessories and customizations like choosing to transform any of your Sactional seat cushions into a storage seat or adding over-the-arm cup holders and serving trays. These are designed specifically for Sactionals and are huge quality of life bonuses.

Does Lovesac Offer Free Fabric Swatches?

  • Yes, you can order up to 5 swatches for free.

Durability & Quality Rating: 88%

Durability is a major factor when it comes to purchasing a couch, especially when you’re ordering online. CEO and founder Shawn Nelson states that, “Our Sactionals follow the Design for Life ethos. My Sactional is 15 years old and it’s on its tenth set of fabric covers. Why can’t other things, like my phone, last for a decade or more?” This suggests that a Sactional could be the last sofa you ever buy due to its durability and adaptability. But is it one that holds up under scrutiny? In other words, do Lovesac couches hold up over time?

Lovesac’s Quality of Materials:

  • They do not list the double rub count of their fabrics, but they have many high quality, stain resistant, cleanable fabrics to choose from. They even have reversible options so you can really dial in your comfort. Their fabrics are almost all designed to be as family and pet friendly as possible.
  • Lovesac offers a few top-grain leather options, as well as faux leather options. Top-grain leather is a high quality leather, but a tier below full-grain (the best available). Top-grain makes sense for the style of couch and the type of use it’s expected to get. However, the price of their top-grain leather is extremely high. Like, “add $7,000+ to the cost of the Sactional” expensive. For those prices I’d like it to be the absolute best quality of leather available, but this isn’t it.
  • Lovesac has multiple seat cushion options to choose from. Their standard foam cushions have two layers of high density foam and a middle supportive layer. There’s also a 50/50 blend of Polyester fiber for top level cushioning. The back pillows have vertical channels of non-woven ticking. Back pillows with multiple channels or chambers are usually always a plus because it keeps the stuffing well-distributed, which limits the amount of fluffing and fussing you’ll need to do. Overall, these cushions should be just fine, but I always prefer when a company lists the density of the foam so that I can more accurately judge the quality. Lovesac does not list that information.
  • Lovesac’s “Lovesoft” cushion filling option is essentially synthetic down. This layer of synthetic stuffing sits atop a layer of foam. The back cushions are also filled with the Lovesoft fiber, this time arranged in three horizontal channels/chambers. This should be a softer, plusher experience compared to the foam option.
  • Lovesac also offers a down blend cushion filling option. They use a combination of duck feathers and down mixed with synthetic fibers. The top down layer is 50% feathers/down and 50% polyester fiber fill. This sits atop a foam layer. The back cushions use the same down ratio for the stuffing and also have three chambers/channels for even distribution. I appreciate that they list the actual down ratio, which many companies omit. This is a fairly premium option and the quality is about what I’d expect for the Lovesac couch price. This is likely the plushest option, but it might prove to be a bit fussier than the synthetic Lovesoft option.

Lovesac’s Cleanability:

  • They have an excellent Fabric Guide that details which fabrics are machine washable (spoiler: almost all of them are). This page also tells you if a fabric is good for kids and pets. They also have another Cleaning Instructions page that can be extra helpful.

Lovesac’s Quality of Construction & Manufacturing Origin:

  • Lovesac manufactures their Sactionals in China, Vietnam, and Mexico. They have slowly been reducing the amount of manufacturing performed in China.
  • Lovesac constructs their seat frames using hardwood, high-density MDF rub plates for prolonged strength at pressure points, and plywood on all key faces. This is about exactly what you would expect from such a configurable and lightweight couch. They’re not cutting too many corners here. For the type of product Lovesac offers, the quality is good. But just know that you’re sacrificing a bit of quality for the sake of modularity and convenience (without any real price cut to go with it).
  • Lovesac uses a sinuous spring system in their seat frames in addition to Italian webbing. Webbing is usually a bit of a red flag, but in this case it’s bolstered by the sinuous spring system so the two should actually work quite well in tandem. For the Lovesac couch price and its modularity I think this is a perfectly good, durable option.
  • The shoes that connect the modular pieces together on the ground are made from high-density MDF with wooden veneers on the outside. This is plenty good to fulfill their very utilitarian task. For the most part you won’t even see them, but when you do, the veneer looks as nice as you’d hope.
  • The other method for connecting pieces together is with a clamp system. The clamps are made from solid steel, so there’s no durability or quality concern here.
  • They have a video that goes into precise details about the construction of their Sactionals, which is very informative and puts my mind at ease. Anytime a company is this forthcoming it means that they don’t have anything to hide.
  • The Sactional's adaptability allows it to be easily moved to a different room and reconfigured to suit changing needs and spaces.

Brand Vibe Check Rating: 88%

Vibing with a brand is important. Brands can also promote certain lifestyles and sustainability goals. That’s why it’s my goal to help you find a company and brand that you vibe with so that you’re as comfortable with your new Lovesac couch as you are on your new couch. The first thing you should know is that founder and CEO Shawn Nelson believes, “The couch is at the nucleus of your life. It’s the literal ground zero of where you’ll spend time with your family and watch your kids grow up. This item should not be ‘part of the furniture’; it should be part of your family and it should be able to change with your family.” If you resonate with this quote, then there’s a good chance you’ll vibe with Lovesac.

Lovesac’s Key Differentiators & Unique Facts:

  • The first Lovesac beanbag (The Sac) was developed in 1995 by the founder, Shawn Nelson, in his parent’s basement. The Sac explodes in popularity, leading to massive growth and multiple showrooms cropping up.
  • Lovesac was named America’s fastest growing furniture retailer by Furniture Today in two different years. On top of that, the founder won $1,000,000 by winning Richard Branson’s show named “Rebel Billionaire”.
  • Lovesac has partnered with StealthTech to offer surround sound and charging stations in their Sactionals, making them one of the highest-tech couches in the world.
  • They have a thoughtful Accessibility Statement page that explains how their website can be used by people with a variety of disabilities. This is always a lovely touch.

Lovesac’s Sustainability:

  • Partnered with Repreve to make the upholstery fabric of all Sac and Sactionals Inserts from 100% repurposed plastic bottles. This is the upholstery used on the base of Sactionals before you add the fabric covers on top.
  • Their modular Sactional ships out in individual boxes via FedEx. This cuts down on large freight shipping, which helps reduce their overall carbon footprint. But they also manufacture their products overseas, so the cargo shipping makes this a bit of a wash.

Lovesac’s Overall Brand Presentation:

  • Lovesac presents itself as a fun, modern, forward-thinking brand that’s great for the whole family. They’re also very cheeky and silly as you might expect from a company named Lovesac. They have a very approachable and hip vibe that feels welcoming and inclusive. It’s a great vibe.Lovesac

More Brand FAQs

What are Lovesac’s top couches?

Lovesac’s Signature Best Seller:

  • The Sactional (starting at $2,160). Lovesac’s Sactionals are endlessly configurable and modular. If you can dream it, you can create it with Sactionals. Lovesac’s entire company is based around the success of Sactionals, so you know they have a vested interested in making sure it’s as good a couch as it could possibly be. And customers agree!

Lovesac’s Couch That Intrigues Me The Most:

  • The Sactional with StealthTech Speaker + Charge system (+ $2,600 to Sactional cost). I’ll admit I’m a sucker for a good audio experience when watching TV so I’m extremely intrigued by the StealthTech option. It adds a surround sound speaker system to your Sactional to create an extremely immersive home audio system. It’s a pricey option, but it’s also super intriguing.

Lovesac’s Hidden Gem:

  • The PillowSac ($950). Lovesac’s origins stem from the humble bean bag chair. The PillowSac is like the edgier, more rebellious older brother of the classic Sac. It has a knife-edge style and is designed to cushion the head and neck in a more practical manner than the other options. Give this one a look if you want a different, fun style of seating.

How much do Lovesac’s couches cost?

Lovesac presents itself as a hip, rebellious brand, but their pricing is decidedly luxury tier. They’re on the pricier side of the market. A Lovesac Sactionals review often highlights the ease of cleaning and maintenance, making it a practical choice for families and pet owners.

Lovesac’s Average Range:

  • The range can vary wildly depending on your configuration choices, but you can expect to spend roughly $5,000 – $6,000 for a fairly standard Sactional configuration.

Most Expensive Lovesac Couch:

  • There’s essentially no limit to how expensive a Sactional can be. But for this exercise I’ll pick a 4 Seat + 5 Side Sactional and push it to its most expensive limit to show how pricey a standard configuration can become. A 4 seat + 5 side Sactional with angled arms and back, with their custom top-grain leather covers, and with their premium down cushions will run you $13,710.
  • Note: StealthTech is not available if you choose one of their top-grain leather options.

Least Expensive Lovesac Couch:

  • 2 Seat + 4 Side Sactional in their Twill fabric with standard cushioning is $2,160. This is as low as I could get the price in their custom Sactional builder.

Does Lovesac have good reviews?

Lovesac’s Sactionals have a ton of reviews on their website. In a detailed lovesac sactionals review, customers often discuss the ease of cleaning and maintenance, highlighting their experiences with stains and the effectiveness of washing removable covers. The Sactional gets about a 4.3 star rating on their own customer reviews section. But what does the rest of the world think? Here’s a look at some of the various aspects of Lovesac reviews.

Overall Lovesac Reviews:

  • Lovesac has a 2.4 star rating on TrustPilot (with 28 reviews) and a 1.48 star rating on Better Business Bureau (with 21 reviews). This is much lower than you’d hope considering the price tag. People specifically had issues with warranty claims, difficulty assembling, and overall issues with Lovesac’s quality and convenience compared to what’s advertised. available, the brand is well-reviewed. Wirecutter gave them a nice write-up. Granted, this is only based on 50 reviews, but it does paint a picture.

Top Lovesac Product Reviews:

  • Sactional 5 star review: “I love this couch! It took a lot of time to organize all the boxes and to assemble but it is worth it. The fabric is pet friendly and it’s easy to take the covers off to clean.” – Jennifer M.
  • Sactional 1 star review: “Purchased 8 sectionals and spent close to $9,000. This is the most uncomfortable sectional ever. The backs are low and the cushions are slouching and not supportive. After sitting on this sectional I experience back discomfort from the lack of support. We have had this sofa for less than a year and looking to replace it.” – Mike

Lovesac’s Customer Service Reviews:

  • Many customer reviews that give Lovesac a low rating cite the customer service as being dismissive, unresponsive, and difficult to work with. Lovesac does have retail stores that can be more helpful than online customer service, but that’s not an option for everyone. Customers feel deceived by the alleged ease of returns and exchanges, as well as Lovesac customer service’s inability to resolve issues.

What kind of style is Lovesac furniture?

If you’ve been reading this review up through this section, then you’ll know that Lovesac really only offers one couch, the Sactional. It’s a very limited range of options and styles. You’re either going to like what Lovesac has to offer or you’ll immediately search elsewhere.

Lovesac’s Range of Couch Options:

  • Lovesac specializes in one couch, the Sactional. This is the only option, though you can customize it with different arms, different fabrics, and different seat cushions. It’s a modular couch that can be configured and rearranged in a vast number of ways to create the perfect setup for your space. Additionally, the Sactional offers storage seats, enhancing functionality in small living spaces by providing convenient storage for items like linens and outdoor gear.

Lovesac’s Range of Couch Styles:

  • Lovesac’s Sactional is essentially a modern style couch. This is their only option, so if you don’t like the boxier, modular style then you’re not going to like what Lovesac has to offer. You can make it look a bit more traditional with a rolled arm, but that’s really the only major stylistic customization you can make to the overall silhouette.

Does Lovesac Have Other Products Besides Couches?

  • Lovesac offers bean bag style chairs. They also have wooden cupholders and serving trays that attach to their Sactional components. But they do not offer any other furniture for the home.

What are some alternatives to Lovesac?

Lovesac’s emphasis is on modularity. Their Sactional can be configured any number of ways, but you’re also going to be extremely limited in terms of style. If this modern, modular approach is something that sounds like it will work well for you and your family (and truthfully it really is great for many homes) but you’re still curious about their competitors after reading this Lovesac review, here are some similar brands to consider:
