If you're deciding between Apt2B and Floyd for your new couch purchase, consider that Apt2B's standout features include quick lead times, a warranty, and a wide fabric selection. However, some couches are imported and may have warranty limitations. On the other hand, Floyd offers unique fabric choices, stylish designs, and a warranty, but its drawbacks include longer lead times, shipping costs, and potential material quality concerns. Ultimately, your decision may come down to whether you prioritize quick delivery and customization (Apt2B couches) or unique design and warranty options (Floyd sofas).

BRAND #1: Apt2B

A black and white logo consists of two sections: the left side reads "APT 2B" and the right side reads "Modern Furniture." The text is enclosed in a rectangular border.

Apt2B was founded in 2010 with the goal of providing customizable, USA made apartment size sofas at an affordable price. They've since expanded their offering to include sectionals, sofa beds, and more. Apt2B was recently acquired by The RoomPlace.

Apt2B | Brand Summary

Apt2B is a really fantastic option if you’re looking for a couch, sleeper sofa, or sectional that’s made in the USA, customizable, is made from quality materials, and ships quick. The delivery process is smooth and stress-free, highlighting the convenience from order placement to receiving the product.

But Apt2B furniture also offers “exclusive import” products that are manufactured overseas and don’t match the rest of their quality. This leads to a bit of an identity crisis on the website and weakens their overall rating. For the sake of this review I will mostly be focusing on their collection of Made in the USA couches, which is also what you should do when shopping at Apt2B.

Couch Potato Note: Like Joybird, I’d recommend that you only order Apt2B couches when they’re on sale (and they’re almost always on sale).

Apt2B | Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Most couches made in the USA
  • Exceptionally fast lead times
  • Huge fabric selection
  • Tons of couch styles and sizes
  • High quality materials for the price
  • Fabrics are all the same price

Cons

  • Some couches imported from overseas
  • Essentially only offers a 1-year warranty
  • Returns can be costly
  • No brick-and-mortar locations

Apt2B has a bit of a split personality when it comes to their couch offerings. They have high-quality, made-in-the-USA sofas, but they also sell cheaper, lower-quality, imported couches. It can be hard to tell which is which when shopping on their website. Their imported couches do not have a warranty, and their USA-made couches essentially have a 1-year warranty despite language promoting a lifetime warranty. A lack of brick-and-mortar locations makes it difficult to judge Apt2B’s quality and comfort in person.

However, they have an excellent range of USA-made couch sizes and styles available in dozens of fabrics. They sell large 2-piece sectional sofas, sectional sleeper sofas, apartment-size sofas, and big modular couches. If you want mid-century modern couches or modern couches you’ll have plenty to choose from at Apt2B furniture. Apt2B also has some of the fastest lead times for custom-built, USA-made sofas we’ve ever seen. The icing on the cake? Apt2B uses high-quality materials, especially at their competitive, mid-tier price point. Plus, every upholstery fabric option is the same price, so you can customize to your heart’s content.

BRAND #2: Floyd

The image features the word "FLOYD" in all capital letters, written in a bold, red font against a white background.

Floyd is an online-only retailer that was founded in 2013 in Detroit, Michigan. The company's first product was called the Floyd Leg and was as simple as it sounds – a leg that could transform any flat object into a table. This simple design philosophy is evident across all their products, even their website.

Floyd | Brand Summary

Floyd has a very well-designed website that also reflects the design principles of their limited couch offerings. But once you peel back the glamorous veneer, you might be disappointed by the overall quality, customer focus, and lead times. There’s a lot to love with Floyd, but the fact that they only have 3 couch options means that you’d expect them to absolutely nail everything else. Unfortunately, they fall short, especially at their price range.

Floyd | Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Unique fabric collection
  • Stylish modern sofas
  • 1-year + extended warranty
  • Only "The Sofa" requires any assembly

Cons

  • Long lead times
  • No free delivery
  • No white glove delivery option
  • Material quality could be better

The first thing you’ll notice about Floyd is how special and stylish their sofas are. And that really is the company’s main draw. They also have one of the most unique and eye-catching fabric collections we’ve ever seen. Some fabrics are recycled cotton. Others have multi-colored cross-weaves. Some are made from Norwegian and New Zealand wool. Fancy! Their signature sofa (aptly named “The Sofa”) has an industrial, reclaimed look to it. Everything about Floyd’s design sensibility is simply cool.

Floyd does provide a 1 year warranty on their craftsmanship. Customers can also purchase an extended warranty through Mulberry that provides coverage for any type of accident or damage.

Although Floyd does not offer white glove delivery options, only The Sofa requires any assembly. And even then, it’s rather simple and straightforward. You won’t have a marital crisis trying to assemble it.

But there are certainly downsides to Floyd. They have unexpectedly long lead times for their limited offering. It can often take 6-10 weeks before a couch ships out. Shipping also costs 12% of your order total (max $299).

The material quality for the price is OK if you’re buying a smaller couch. But you can easily spend $3,000+ on a Floyd couch. At that price point we’d like to see higher quality cushion fill and sturdier frames.

And the winner is...

In the showdown between Apt2B and Floyd, the clear winner shines as Apt2B for its fast lead times, extensive fabric choices, made in the USA options, and quality materials at a competitive price point. While Floyd brings its unique fabric collections and stylish designs to the ring, Apt2B's overall package steals the show for those looking for a reliable and customizable couch experience.
