Lulu and Georgia has a wonderful presentation for its couch products. Everything about their website makes me want to shop with them. But when the average price point for a standard 3-seater exceeds $3,000 I’m forced to be more critical about the quality, customer focus, and the overall brand presentation. In this case, Lulu and Georgia falls short in some of the most important aspects.

Lulu and Georgia has a lovely website that’s a joy to browse. Their lifestyle images are beautiful and everything feels very neat and tidy about the shopping experience. I have a few minor notes (and there aren’t really any special bells and whistles), but everything else hits the mark.

Ease of Navigation

Lulu and Georgia has a really nice homepage with glamorous, gorgeous photography. They do an excellent job of showcasing their products and it made me immediately want to start shopping.
The menus are clean and easy to navigate. The left hand side highlights some great options like “ready to ship” and “sale” furniture. I do wish sofas and sectionals were listed higher than coffee tables and accent chairs, but it’s a minor gripe.
There are a good number of useful filters to help you narrow down your couch quest. I particularly appreciate the addition of “seat depth” as a filter (though the options of “petite,” “standard,” and “deep seated” aren’t as helpful as they could be).
Product pages are elegant and easy to browse. Everything you need is right at the top of the page, including the extra info tabs. Sometimes these are buried a bit. Even if you scroll down, it’s a nice, short page that concludes with a review section. It’s all very neat and compact and convenient. My one nitpick is that product photos are too tall for the space they occupy.

Information Available “At-A-Glance”

From a category page you can see the couch’s name, the price range, how many fabrics are available, if it’s on sale (exact sale price not listed), and if it’s “new” or “exclusive” or a “bestseller.” It’s a good amount of info.
Listing only a price range makes it difficult to know which details will increase the price. But is it the couch size? Or is it the fabric? It’s concerning when the range sometimes spans thousands of dollars.
You’re able to change the fabric color of a couch by choosing one of the different color tiles.

Product Images

On category pages, hovering over a product image brings up either a lifestyle image or an alternate angle. Also, some couches have a lifestyle image as their main image. I like the way this breaks up the monotony of the otherwise plain couch-on-white-backdrop imagery. It’s always nice to see products in real home settings.
On category pages, you can actually scroll through individual product images by clicking on the side arrows. This is a really great feature that allows you to get a better view of the couch before having to fully click into it.
On product pages, there are usually images of the couch on a white background from every side, a lifestyle image or two, and maybe some featured close-ups. It varies by couch. Some only have 4 or 5 pictures total.
There’s no 360 feature to really view the couches from every angle.
When available, the lifestyle images are all gorgeous. I wish there were more of them.

Quality of Product Information

At this price point, I’d like to see much better, specific information listed. The “Details” dropdown only offers vague info about the materials without ever getting specific (eg “high-resiliency foam” without listing the exact density. Or “hardwood” without saying the type of wood). These things matter when it comes to higher-priced couches.
I appreciate that they plainly state whether cushions are removable, whether pillows are included, and whether legs are removable or not. Many companies omit this.
Dimensions are clearly listed out and easy to decipher. However, there isn’t always an illustrated diagram, which I like to have.
I’m glad the first thing they say in the “Details” tab is that made to order products are not returnable. But I also wish this weren’t hidden in a dropdown tab. It’s important info so it should really be visible without having to click on something else.

Made to Order Products:

The majority of their made to order couches have an 8-10 week lead time. However, there are a few outliers that ship out in as little as 2-3 weeks.

In Stock Items:

Some couches are in stock and ready-to-ship. These take about 5-7 days to ship out from the warehouse.

Shipping Time:

Shipping takes up to 14 business days, which, in layman’s terms, means 3 weeks.

Our goal at Couch.com is to provide customers with the information they need to find the best couch for their home. We take customer satisfaction very seriously. So how does Lulu and Georgia stack up to the competition when it comes to customer friendly resources and offerings?

Warranty:

Try as I might, I was unable to find any warranty information, even for their made to order couches. This is a red flag.

Return Options:

Their made to order couches are NOT returnable. In this case, “made to order” refers to ANY couch where you choose a fabric/color (basically every couch they offer).
IF (and that’s a big ‘if’) your order qualifies for a return and you’re within 60 days, then you may be subject to a 25% restocking fee.
Orders canceled in transit or refused at delivery may also be subject to a 25% restocking fee.

Delivery Options & Costs:

Couches only ship with white glove delivery. The cost is shown at time of checkout. To Los Angeles the price was $369. I also tried more remote locations and the price was still $369. This appears to be the blanket price.

Financing Options:

They’ve partnered with After Pay and Affirm to offer payment plans for 3, 6, and 12 month periods. APR is typically between 10-30%.

Is Assembly Required?

Orders ship with white glove delivery, which means that any assembly will be performed for you. Assembly is typically limited to simply attaching legs.

Customization Options:

Most couches have a handful of fabric/color options to choose from. Roughly 5-10. This is generally the only customization option aside from modular couch configurations.

Does Lulu and Georgia Offer Free Fabric Swatches?

Yes, Lulu and Georgia offers free fabric swatches on select couches, but they’re not super convenient to order. You have to manually add them one by one to your regular shopping cart and then go through the checkout process as if you’re making a purchase.
Free swatches are not available for every couch they offer.

Durability & Quality

Lulu and Georgia: Durability & Quality

Durability is a major factor when it comes to buying a couch, especially when you’re ordering online. So do Lulu and Georgia couches hold up over time? Their materials are all good quality in broad terms, but for the price point of their couches, they should be using much more premium materials and craftsmanship.

Quality of Materials:

There is very little fabric information available. Often the fabrics are simply listed as being 100% Polyester, but there’s no double rub counts or explanations for what things like “performance” mean in relation to their other offerings. You also have very few options to choose from.
They use top-grain leather for their couches. This is a tier below full-grain leather, which is considered the highest quality option. Top-grain is a good quality leather when the price for a 3-seater is about $3,000. But some of their 3-seater leather couches are pushing $6,000. At that price point I’d really much rather see them using full-grain leather.
Most seat cushions are listed as using high-resiliency foam with a dacron fiber wrap. Some cushions use a down/feather envelope around high-resiliency foam. This is all fairly common and good for this price range, though somewhat unremarkable.

Cleanability:

Based on their limited instructions for cleaning, their fabrics are generally S, W, or W/S cleaning codes. However, they do not do a good job of specifying this. You’ll need to look at the “Care” information on the product page to get any info.
These are not the most easily-cleanable fabrics. The “Care” section on product pages usually encourages you to simply hire professional cleaners for any stains.

Quality of Construction & Manufacturing Origin:

Some couch collections are made in the USA, but others are imported. Some options are even available on other websites, though they’ll be listed under a different name.
Most couch frames are a mix of kiln-dried hardwood and plywood while others are a laminated hardwood. This is all OK, but not exactly stellar at this price point.
The spring support systems, though not always listed, are typically sinuous spring systems. Again, this is fine and good, but competitors at similar price points offer more premium choices like 8-way hand-tied systems.

Lulu and Georgia has a chic, aspirational quality to its website and offerings. Everything looks very luxurious and tasteful. It’s the type of furniture you buy when you finally feel like you’re an adult who’s ready to have nice things. It all has a very professional-but-fun vibe, which is how many people want to be perceived in the world. Lulu and Georgia has done an excellent job carving out this niche and thriving in it.
Founder and CEO Sara Sugarman Brenner says, “… interior design can be tricky. Most people lack the confidence to conceptualize an entire room. Lulu & Georgia makes home decor shopping easy, with products specifically targeted at the modern woman and content geared towards helping her imagine her space and feel inspired.” You can certainly feel the feminine touch and attention to detail come through in all aspects of the brand presentation.

Fabienne Sofa ($3,998). This vintage-meets-modern piece is utterly glamorous. I can easily see why it’s a best seller.

Couch That Intrigues Me The Most:

Harlowe Media Lounger ($2,348). This large, “single” seater looks like a cozy oasis that’s perfect for curling up with a good book for a whole afternoon. I’d love to know how comfy it is.

Hidden Gem:

Vivi Tete-A-Tete Chaise ($5,698) – This is a really unique modular piece that can have multiple chic configurations. I love it in its reverse-facing format.

Lulu and Georgia is not an cheap brand. I’d describe their prices as being at the transition point between middle-tier and luxury, upper-tier prices.

Average Range:

Most 3-seater style couches fall within the $2,400 – $3,500 range, but some can actually exceed that cost.

Most Expensive Lulu and Georgia Couch:

Jocelyn Leather Sofa ($5,999). This is their most expensive standard 3-seater sofa. They have much more expensive sectionals and modulars, but for the sake of comparison, I’ve chosen the Jocelyn.

Ainsley Sofa ($1,999). This is their least expensive 3-seater sofa that also features arms. They do have an armless couch that’s less expensive.
