Living Spaces: Ultimate Brand Review And Rating

Living Spaces Couch Brand Review
Living Spaces aims to offer a better way to shop for sofas and other furniture pieces. They offer a wide range of traditional, modern, and trendy pieces, making it easier to find one that matches your taste and lifestyle even while online shopping. Aside from its online store, the brand has 40 stores in the United States to serve you if you’re looking for a Living Spaces couch. In this comprehensive Living Spaces review, I break down the brand and reveal their PotatoMeter rating.

Overall Potatometer Rating:

0 %

Living Spaces remains focused on making the furniture buying experience easier for customers. It offers a wide range of sofas that cater to people on a budget or ready to splurge. The choices are myriad if you’re looking for a Living Spaces couch, but they make things easier for you with a well-built site that can help you filter the best choices. The same is true when you visit their outlets. They have friendly staff who will take the time to walk you through their different products. The brand's emphasis is to help the customers be in control and not get overwhelmed with all the choices. If you are shopping for a Living Spaces sofa online, it’s easy to browse through all the options, compare products, and even customize one.

Our Own Rating System

The PotatoMeter is Couch.com’s very own rating system that grades furniture retailers on a variety of – what we consider to be – essential criteria. While we aim to be fair and objective in our assessment, subjectivity based on our expertise and personal biases is unavoidable.

Living Spaces: Online Shopping Experience

The Living Spaces website has a simple, modern, and streamlined look.  I like how it is well-organized, with a clean and sleek style using a neutral color palette, so customers will not be overwhelmed with all the choices when you land on the page. Everyday consumers looking for a Living Spaces couch – be it a sectional, modular, loveseat, chaise lounge, or other sofa styles– can easily navigate different categories and filter various options so you can find the best one for you.

Living Spaces’ Ease of Navigation

  • I find the overall layout of the website intuitive and user-friendly. Knowing Living Spaces offers a complete line of home furniture and accessories, one may think the website could be too busy for one’s eye, but it’s easy to navigate.
  • Whether browsing from a laptop, desktop, or mobile device, you’ll land on the homepage and can easily find where to go next to buy a Living Spaces sofa.
  • On top of the home page, Living Spaces tries to make the buying experience easy for consumers. You can easily find a search box to input what you’re looking for quickly, have a well-designed navigation bar, and feature products you might love on a carousel.
  • Scroll down the homepage to see helpful headings, such as Shop By Department, We Think You’ll Like, Designer Inspiration, or Shop By Style. The Living Spaces team thought of how to meet customers in their furniture shopping journey.
  • When you head to the page for Living Spaces couches and sofas, you can easily filter the items you want to see. I recently helped a niece who wished to find a sofa under $500. The experience was a breeze. With filters that can easily sort Living Spaces couches using a particular fabric, specific length or width, or various shapes, among others, the brand makes life easy for you.
  • Like its desktop version, the mobile website is also responsive, with a clear structure, comprehensive filter options, and a clean layout.

Living Spaces’ Information Available “At-A-Glance”

  • From the main page, you can head to the Living Room Furniture category and find clickable options that will bring you to the specific department for Living Spaces sectionals, modulars, loveseats, futons, sleeper sofas, and more.
  • When you scan each department, you can easily see the images of different Living Spaces couches against a light gray background, their corresponding prices, available colors, sofa shipping time estimates, and star ratings based on customer reviews.
  • When you click the Quick Look button, there will be a pop-up showing the product’s dimensions, style, material type, and the options to add to your cart or see more details about the product. You’ll also see different images of the products from different angles.
  • You’ll also find labels on the product images to indicate if they are best sellers, available at an outlet, or on clearance sale.
  • As you browse through the Living Spaces sofas, you can “heart” the ones you’re considering and browse the collection later on. Likewise, a comparison option allows you to select two to four items to compare.

Living Spaces’ Product Images

  • Living Spaces provides high-quality images of their sofas and other products on a light gray background as default.
  • Hovering on a specific product image changes its background into a living room. I always find features like this helpful, so you can imagine what the sofa would be like in the real world.
  • On product pages, you can view between 5 and 15 images of a Living Spaces couch. You’ll see the product from different angles. Also, most have zoomed images of different parts of the couch, such as the arms, back, seats, and any interesting features.
  • Living Spaces sofas in a particular collection also have videos you can watch to learn more details and features.

Living Spaces’ Quality of Product Information

  • On the specific Living Space couch product page, you have all the basics you need when buying a sofa online. At a glance, you’ll see the product’s price, different product features, availability, description, images, dimensions, weight, style, and color family.
  • The product page of the more expensive couches or sofas comes with sections that present Key Details & Dimensions or Why You’ll Love It.
  • If you want more detailed information, you can expand the product details section, and you’ll see a table with more detailed dimensions of the product itself and the package. It also lists details about the styling of the couch, mentioning the shape, base cloth content, leg finish, and even information about the included accent pillows.
  • Each product detail page also gives you information about the construction of the Living Spaces sofa. It indicates details, including the wood used, frame joint construction, frame composition, foam composition, foam density, and suspension system.
  • The brand also covers bases, including essential delivery information, such as if the legs of the furniture can be removed or the minimum doorway clearance needed.
  • One thing to note: the product details of a Living Space couch do not indicate the rub-count rating of the upholstery fabric. I checked the free fabric swatches page, and there’s nothing about rub counts. However, the company is willing to provide the rub count, as seen in some product questions answered by their team. You can also chat with them via the chat information, and they’ll happily tell you about it.

Living Spaces’ Extra Bells & Whistles

  • Living Spaces gives potential buyers practical tools such as a 360 Spin feature, although not all products come with this.
  • For sofas available in different colors, you can use a 360 Color Preview to tweak the item’s color and see how it looks against a particular wall or floor color.
  • I also played with the View Size feature, where you can check the size of the sofa in the same frame with the silhouette of a male or female figure,  other household items, and different room colors or sizes. I think this will come handy to help you imagine how you will manage the space in the living room or wherever you’ll add the sofa.
  • If you’re buying a Living Spaces sectional sofa, you can build your own using an easy-to-use configurator that previews the product and updates the price as you customize it.

Living Spaces: Shipping & Lead Times

Part of the brand’s commitment to give customers an easy and convenient shopping experience, Living Spaces offers same-day or next-day delivery in certain areas, whether you buy a sofa online or at one of their outlets.

Living Spaces’ Made-to-Order Products: If you’re ordering a customized Living Spaces sectional or other items, expect to wait between 4 to 5 weeks for certain custom upholstery choices. Their customized sofas are built in one of the company’s warehouses in the United States.

Living Spaces’ In-Stock Items: Items in stock are typically ready for delivery or pickup within a few days. As mentioned above, depending on your location, some may be available for same-day or next-day delivery.

Living Spaces’ Shipping Time: Once your new Living Spaces couch ships out from the company’s warehouse, it can take a day or 2 if your area is qualified for same-day or next-day shipping, or as long as 4 weeks.

Living Spaces: Customer Focus

Our goal at Couch.com is to provide you with the knowledge to make an informed decision. If you’re buying a couch online, I don’t want you to spend your hard-earned money and feel you’re taking a leap of faith. Furniture pieces, including sofas, are expensive now, so we want you to find the right match and avoid the hassle of returning the item or wasting money altogether.

“Twenty years ago, I had a frustrating experience buying furniture which set Sharm [co-founder] and I on a mission to simplify the shopping process,” said Living Spaces CEO, Grover Geiselman on how they started their mission to simplify the furniture shopping process. How’s the brand doing today in terms of customer experience and satisfaction?

Living Spaces’ Warranty:

  • Living Spaces offers a 1-year limited warranty for most of its furniture. The limited warranty covers defects in material and workmanship issues. Take note that, just like in most shops, this warranty is not transferable.
  • In case of defects covered by the warranty, the manufacturer will repair or replace the defective part but will not take care of the labor cost and transportation. These things are covered if you get their extended protection called the Care Free Plan provided by Uniters.
  • Certain frames are covered for 3 years for structural defects in materials or workmanship. Your sofa, loveseat, chaise, sectionals, and recliners are covered as long as the issue is not caused by abuse or neglect, normal wear and tear, damage during delivery, or commercial or institutional use. This is not the best couch warranty on the market, but it is pretty standard.

Living Spaces’ Return Options:

  • You can return regular stock items within 7 days after delivery. However, be ready to pay a 10% restocking fee. Living Spaces does not accept returns on custom special orders, such as a customized sectional. When returning items, you need to disassemble them and return them in their original packaging.
  • The delivery fee, if any, is not refundable. You will shoulder a fee if you need them to pick up the item to be returned.

Living Spaces’ Delivery Options & Costs:

  • All Living Spaces sofas come with free delivery. However, this service is just an Outdoor Drop Off. The delivery team will leave your new couch at your doorstep without a signature. Upon drop-off, they will send you a picture of the delivery to let you know it has been dropped off.
  • Another option for $29 is Indoor Drop-Off. The delivery team will bring your new furniture, for example, a Living Spaces modular, to the first dry area of your home. This type of delivery requires the adult recipient’s signature. If no one’s available to receive your new sofa, Living Spaces may opt to change your delivery to an Outdoor drop-off or charge you a fee if you reschedule.
  • Living Spaces also offers Full-Service Delivery for a fee starting at $99. The delivery team will bring the item to the room of your choice. They will unbox the item and assemble the sofa as needed. They will also remove all boxes and debris. Plus, this qualifies for same-day delivery if you order certain items before 4 pm.
  • The delivery fine print states that the delivery availability and fees are determined by your location and delivery date. Additional charges may apply.

Living Spaces’ Financing Options:

  • Living Spaces has partnered with Synchrony to offer furniture financing with no interest if paid in full within 12 months on purchases of $1,000 or for within 24 months on purchases of $2,000 or more. Likewise, there’s a 60-month promo with a reduced APR of 9.99% for 60 months. This one requires you to make 60 fixed monthly payments.
  • If you don’t want to purchase the Living Spaces couch with a Synchrony card, the company also has a partnership with Concora Credit. Concora will determine the terms of financing upon application. You can use Concora to pay for your furniture pieces in-store or online.

Is Assembly Required?

  • Most Living Spaces couches and sofas are delivered pre-assembled, meaning you don’t need to set up anything. If your new sofa requires assembly, such as when you need to attach its legs, the package will come with the necessary tools and instructions. You can also find tips on how to do it properly in the Ideas+Advice section of their website.
  • Living Spaces sofas usually come with a twist on leg (bolt attached to leg), leg with base plate (screw in), leg with base plate (bolted on), or leg affixed with wood screws.
  • If you do not want the trouble of assembling your new sofa, you may opt for the Full Delivery Service, which includes assembly, placement of the sofa in the room of your choice, and clearing of packaging materials and debris.

Living Spaces’ Customization Options:

  • Aside from a wide range of sofa styles, you can also customize the upholstery of your new Living Spaces couch. You can change the color of the fabric and choose the material you love at no extra charge.
  • For customizable sofas, you will see a 360 Color Preview tab under the product image. You can click that, and you can tweak the item to the color, fabric, and prints you like. Living Spaces offers over 100 universal fabric options. There’s also a page dedicated for custom Living Spaces sofas where you can choose the fabrics, configuration, and foam to use.
  • If the sofa comes with toss pillows, you can also customize the pillows by color. For certain items, you can also pick the perfect size of pillows.
  • Again, note that special orders are not eligible for returns once you have received them.

Does Living Spaces Offer Free Fabric Swatches?

  • Yes, Living Spaces offers free fabric swatches. The company believes that true luxury lies in the details. If you want to see and feel the fabric of the custom couch you’re eyeing to buy, you can order free fabric swatches from the manufacturer. You can choose up to 3 of your favorites, and they will send them to you within 7 to 10 business days.
  • The fabric swatches page on their website is well-designed to help customers pick the best fabric for a custom sofa. The page shows the different fabrics for sofas available, including Chenille, Velvet, Weave, Micro Fiber, Boucle, Jacquard, and Micro Suede. Likewise, you can also filter the fabrics according to their best features, such as performance, durability, soap cleanability, stain resistance, and bleach cleanability.

Living Spaces: Durability & Quality

Aside from comfort, you need to ensure that the Living Spaces sofa you buy will last for years. This way, you get the most out of it because you deserve it when you spend your hard-earned dollars on them. Will Living Spaces couches, marketed as affordable, hold up to the test of time?

Living Spaces’ Quality of Materials:

  • The quality of upholstery not only helps with the eye appeal of a sofa but also affects its overall longevity. Living Spaces sofas are offered in various fabrics. Of course, the fabric used will affect the sofa’s price, but it’s good that the company offers a wide array of choices to match your needs and lifestyle.
  • If you are looking for specific information about the materials used for a Living Spaces couch, you can easily track it down on the product page or other sections of the website.
  • We still wish the rub counts could be seen on the product page for full transparency. For residential purposes, a 25,000 rating is satisfactory, but some products in the market come with a 50,000 count, 80,000 count, or higher. Over chat, a company representative shared that the Adeline Sectional’s Chenille has a double rub count of 30,000.
  • Most Living Spaces leather sofas are made with top-grain leather. This kind of leather is a top-quality leather used when manufacturing couches today. Most of the components of the hide remain untouched except for the outermost, which is removed so the leather is easier to work with.
  • As for the foam, the brand uses standard foam or memory foam cushions, depending on the product. The product details will tell you if the cushion of the sofa you plan to buy is firm (more supportive), medium comfort, or plush comfort (on the softer side).
  • Regarding the wood used for the frame of their couches, Living Spaces uses Kiln-dried hardwoods, plywood, or engineered wood. The pieces are glued and nailed together, then corner-blocked to ensure they’re strong enough to withstand years of use and abuse.
  • Living Spaces couches typically come with 8 or 8.5-gauge steel coils bound by cross wires for their suspension system. This setup gives the sofas that bounce and proper support.

Living Spaces’ Cleanability:

  • The fabrics used on Living Spaces couches are generally cleanable. I scanned several fabric sofas, and they mostly have a W cleaning code, which means you can use a water-based cleaning agent.
  • Specific product pages also indicate the care code for the fabric. There are also handy guides on how to clean a fabric couch, plus valuable tips on the table of product details, such as using distilled water to avoid fading or ringing.

Living Spaces’ Quality of Construction & Manufacturing Origin:

  • Living Spaces has factories in the United States to manufacture a portion of its merchandise.
  • The pieces are usually glued and nailed together for the frame of their sofas, then corner-blocked to ensure they’re strong enough to withstand years of use and abuse.
  • The cushions primarily determine how comfortable a sofa will be for you. When building firmer seats, high-density foam is often wrapped in linings like batting or Dacron for some extra padding. Softer ones, which give you that cloud-like feeling when you sit on them, come with foam blended with down feathers and fiber.
  • Living Spaces couches typically come with 8 or 8.5-gauge steel coils bound by cross wires for their suspension system. This setup gives the sofas that bounce and proper support.
  • Overall, I think the quality of materials and how they construct their sofas are good indicators that they are built to last and easy to maintain.

Living Spaces: Brand Vibe Check

Brand vibe goes beyond appreciating a furniture piece’s aesthetics and overall quality. It’s more about how Living Spaces is in tune with your values. When you learn about the Living Spaces couch you’re about to buy, do you feel that connection between you and the brand? What does the brand do to make it stand out and make you think, “Yes, I want that sofa in my living room.”

Living Spaces’ Key Differentiators & Unique Facts:

  • The company was founded in 2003 and now has 40 stores nationwide.
  • Living Spaces has a low-price guarantee. They will match the price tag and take off an additional 10% if you find an exact model at another retail store 30 days before or after your purchase.
  • The brand has partnered with a nonprofit organization, Furnishing Hope, which helps supply furniture for Wounded Warriors or veterans transitioning to traditional houses. They also actively do outreach programs with other organizations, such as Women 4 Women. These two are great examples of the company’s overall culture of giving back.

Living Spaces’ Sustainability:

When it comes to sustainability, the brand is taking steps to become a better steward of the world we are living in. In 2023, Living Spaces CEO Grover Geiselman revealed they will continue innovating and growing. “We’re also about to launch our Sustainability Council, which will guide our decisions from raw material sourcing to transportation in an environmentally friendly direction,” he said. “We can become a shining example of how businesses can achieve great success and improve the communities they serve,” he added.

  • The sustainable practices of Living Spaces are not detailed on the company’s website. I’m excited about how the company will make their sofas or their process of making them more eco-friendly. For now, it is best to check with the company to find out more about their efforts to source materials to build their sofas and other furniture pieces or how they’re reducing waste and overall carbon footprint.

Living Spaces’ Overall Brand Presentation:

  • Ease of shopping for furniture such as a Living Spaces couch is the name of the game for the brand. They give you hundreds of options of ready-made sofas or customizable couches you can purchase online easily. More than that, they designed the buying experience to be customer-centric so that it could be hassle-free for most, even someone who has not bought a sofa before.

Living Spaces’ Top Product Reviews:

  • Bonaterra Dove 127″ 2 Piece Sectional with Left Arm Facing Sofa Chaise & Right Arm Facing Corner Chaise 5 Star Review: “The couch is soft to touch but firm. Love the color working with living spaces was a great experience. Their store is beautiful. I walked around the other day and actually got lost. So much to see. Highly recommend living Spaces.”  – Annette Musco (verified purchaser)
  • Bonaterra Dove 127″ 2 Piece Sectional with Left Arm Facing Sofa Chaise & Right Arm Facing Corner Chaise 1 Star Review: “Very frustrated with this couch. We have had it less than a year and within the first few months it was creaking a lot. We have filed 4 claims within the time we have had it and they even replaced a piece and the issue has not been fixed. The build of this couch is not the level I would have expected it to be coming from living spaces for the price we paid. I have gotten other couches from other places and have never had to file a claim before so that fact that I have had to do it multiple times really upsets me. Everywhere we sit, there is a loud creak. I don’t recommend this couch to anyone.” – Eric24

Living Spaces’ Customer Service Reviews:

  • You can contact the company’s customer service via phone, form, or chat. In my own experience, I inquired about several items and a possible scenario of returning an item, and the customer service representative of Living Spaces was prompt to reply and proactive in solving a potential issue over the chat.
  • The bad reviews on BBB and TrustPilot are mostly on delivery time and the overall quality of the products.
